Leonard has been a part of the steel industry since 1952. Leonard's first steel job was with Hohmann and Barnard in New York city. His responsibilities included drafting, estimating, new product development and sales. Leonard then became a partner in Louver Manufacturing Company of New York city in 1966. He was responsible for development and design of die components and tooling used in the production of stationary and adjustable ventilators and air passage devices. In 1969, Leonard joined The Weston Company of Gainesville, Virginia. He had responsibility for overseeing daily operations of the plant which specialized in custom steel products. Leonard then became the President and CEO of Arrow Metal Products in 1982. Leonard oversaw the daily operations and estimated work for customers. In 1993 Leonard became a consultant for R&D Metal Fabricators located in Manassas Park, Virginia. Leonard along with Lieu Nguyen and Kenn Herrington founded Alliance Steel & Fabrication in 1995. Leonard retired as President of Alliance Steel in 1998.
